Dept. of Natural Resource
Inspection of 77-129
15 Ouly 1982
We have received and reviewed the above inspection reports and wish
the following to be filed with those reports.
77-129, Whitewater Pit 500
Observation Number One and Recommendations Number One and Two. In
1980, Mark Heffner, Oakes, reviewed our planting success on stages X and Y
which at that time was encouraging and he made recommendation on weed
control and fertilizing which was carried out during that year. In 1981,
we lost most of our revegetation gains and as you saw 1982 has resulted
in a total loss of the 1979 planting. Seed varities were selected from
the advice of the SCS and what was commercially available and currently we
are reviewing the situation and will take into consideration all suggestions
we can get.
Our amendments of Permit77-129, September 1981, with MRLB approval
on 16 Decmeber 1981 took into consideration the failure of the first large
attempt to revegetate. We feel that our mining requirements are still
having an adverse effect on revegetation. The new reclamation staging
takes in the entire area of each lake and adjoining affected areas. One
revegetation effort will be conducted after mining has ceased and water has
been allowed back into the pit area For the entire bank area. Shaping
and other preparatory items is being done prior to this revegetation
during the mining stage.
