i .-
~•
ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES
l
l iffs
On November 22, 1983, Bookc received seven samples o f mine waste
material from the Twentymile Caal Company for analysis by column leach
I, extraction. five of the samples were received in the form of a 2#-inch
core. The remaining two samples, Waste Coal and Waste Rock Samples 1 8
C' 2, were received in an aggregate form with material size ranging from
100 mm to less than 0.5 mm.

The seven samples were logged into the lab and assigned a unique
C laboratory number. Table 1, Sample Identification, lists these samples
and their assigned laboratory number. Also included in Table 1 are two
duplicates made by Bookcliffs from the following two samples:

• Foidel Creek Mine Core 001-83-b6, 143.2'-147.7', Coal
C Foidel Creek Mine Core 001-83-66, 149.3'-154.6', Floor

Sample Preparation
. The seven leachate samples (83-5246-L thru 83-5252-L) were air-dried for
72 hours. The two types of materials (core .and aggregate) were
prepared for analysis using the following methods:
C
• Crushing of Lore Material
C • Screening of Aggregate Material
The five core samples were crushed to 8 mm and thoroughly mixed. Two
splits of the 8 mm sample were made; one for storage and future
L reference, the other for analysis. The samples for analysis were
crushed to minus 0.5 mm.
L The two aggregate samples were screened through a series of stainless
steel sieves using a mechanical sieve shaker. The following sizes of
L material were obtained by the screening process:
L `~
