EXHIBIT B
• MINING PLAN
The MARVEL PIT is an existing open pit gravel mine that was ~.t one
time used as a sanitary landfill for the small community of *farvel and the
surrounding area. The County does not have any particular timetable for
mining operations to begin again at this pit.
La Plata County, at this time, does not own a gravel crusher. There-
fore, all other pertinent permits required will be the responsibility of
the crusher operator.
Mining of this pit will be conducted by first stripping any overburden
material clear of the gravel and stockpiling the overburden for future recla-
mation uses. It would be nearly impossible to determine the ranges of depth
and amounts of overburden existing within the affected area since most of it
• has already been removed. This stripping procedure will be accomp'~ished with
a crawler type tractor equipped with a dozer blade. ?faterial will then be
fed into the crusher with a front end loader. Processed gravel wi]_1 be stock-
piled on the site for future use.
The depth of previous extraction ranges from 5' to 20' at various loca-
lions within the affected area. Existing slopes within the area re.nge from
2:1 to 3:1.
The S.C.S. has recommended controlling the noxious weed problem during
gravel operations. La Plata County has a weed extermination program for its
rural County road right-of-ways. This program can be extended to the gravel
pit for control of the noxious weeds.

• DEC 3r, 1977
IVI~IJC~ ~.; ~. ~i i. ~rCt l.i??;.T~7~1
