L' _
These physiographic subdivisions are shown in Appendix B taken from [he New
Mexico Geological Society -Twenty Second Field Conference.
Local Geology
The - application tract is located within the Alamosa Basin
physiographic subdivision of the San Luis Valley along the faulted front of
the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The mountain front is located approximately
1.5 miles northeast of the subject tract and is bordered by an apron of
alluvial fans deposited at the mouths of the many canyons which drain the
highlands.
The entire tract is surfaced with alluvial deposits consisting of glacial till
of the Pleistocene Age Pinedale glaciation which were derived from San Isabel
Creek and its tributaries.
The subject tract is relatively undissected giving little exposure of
materials present below the surface. The surface soil material on the tract
varies from light brown to medium brown with variable amounts of coarse
material, the western third of the tract is more sandy consisting of the
following:
Quartz Sand - 75 to 80 percent
Feldspar Sand - 5 to 10 percent
Sand Size Rock Fragments - 5 to 10 percent
The sand grains are subrounded with some evidence of eolian transportation.
The grain size is fine to medium with minor silt.
