SS-15, SS-2 to SS-16, and so on. Locations of the soil samples are
• presented in Exhibit 23 in this section and Exhibits 8A, 10A and 11A, lab
Section 13.
Three (3) areas of possible topsoil salvage were identified and delineated
at the Cameo Refuse Disposal Area No.1 (CRDA-1) during a state
inspection in 1983. These (3) areas were sampled and analyzed for
physical and chemical characteristics. The results of this sampling are
listed in Appendix 9-3 and their location is shown on Exhibit 23 and 96.
This information was part of a topsoil salvage plan for CRDA-1 which was
submitted as Item 9 to the permit in February 1983. Material form these
sites was stockpiled in Topsoil Piles 5 and 6 and was used for topsoil
cover on CRDA-1 in 1994.
Topsoil stripping area boundaries and soil sample locations for CRDA- 2
• and 3 are shown on Exhibits 51 and 52 respectively. Soil sample
analyses are found in Appendix 9-4. Soil salvage was completed on
CRDA 2 in 1985. Soils of refuse disposal area ~ex~hib o. 2 and 3
exhibit a wide variation in quality. Generally from 1 to 4" of material meets
the SAR and EC limits defined in Tab 14 for replacement in the top 6" of
cover. As the depth of soil increases the soils become too saline and
sodic to support most moderately salt tolerant plant species. The relative
crop yield, in percent, drops drastically low when contemplating
revegetation with native moderately salt tolerant species on the deep
horizon soils.
Appendix 9-5 includes Soil Sample Analysis for the South Fan,the 2 West
Portal area disturbance, the Cameo Borrow Area's 1 and 2, and the
Roadside South Parking Lot. Due to the steep terrain and the high rock
• content of the thin topsoil available at the 2 West Portals, separate
9-3 (Rev. 7/16/97)
