:- `'- •: <br />~II II~I~~II~"~~ ~I~ <br />-~` sss <br />SMALL TREES <br />1. General: 100 Pinyon Pine seedlings per acre of disturbed <br />area shall be planted. These seedlings shall be grown in minimum <br />2 x 2 x 8 inch pot with height growth of eight inches or more <br />shall be planted at designated sites. Back fill soil shall be <br />mixed with a minimum of 8 ounces of hydrated polyacriamide (soil <br />water retention additive) mixed with the proper amount of water <br />as prescribed by the manufacturer. This soil water retention <br />additive shall be added to the bottom 2/3 of the soil pit. <br />2. inspection: Prior to planting, all trees shall be inspected <br />for insect, disease, stress, and condition problems. Any trees <br />which exhibit symptoms of stress, disease or insect damage, as <br />determined by the Fort Carson Representative will immediately be <br />sprayed, treated, or rejected. If it is determined that the <br />condition of the tree is not treatable, then the tree shall be <br />disposed of off Fort Carson. <br />3. Planting Schedule. Planting will occur at the direction of <br />the Fort Carson Representative. The ideal time period for tree <br />planting will be in the March through May period. <br />9. Transportation of Trees. Trees shall be protected by shade <br />cloth during transportation to the planting site if weather <br />conditions require protection. An anti-transpirant shall be <br />sprayed on the tree foliage if it is determined to be necessary. <br />5. Planting• <br />5.A. General: Trees shall be planted at predetermined <br />sites designated by the Fort Carson Representative within three <br />feet of each flagged site. <br />S.B. Planting Pit (Saucer): A planting pit with a minimum <br />of 30 inches diameter and 5 inches in height shall be constructed <br />around the base of each tree to facilitate watering of trees <br />through the maintenance period. Sides of holes dug for the trees <br />shall be scarified to reduce glazing and improve water <br />penetration. Trees shall be planted no deeper than the ground <br />surface level in which the tree was originally growing. <br />back fill soil shall then be firmly packed around planted root <br />ball. Heavy tamping of the back fill material shall be avoided. <br />Use only the blunt end of the shovel handle or similar instrument <br />to remove large air pockets. <br />6. Mulch: The planting pit shall be filled evenly with wood <br />chips, or bark to a minimum depth of 3 inches after the initial <br />watering. The mulch material shall be of quality grade, free <br />from any known noxious plants or materials, and with an average <br />size distribution not to exceed 1 inch. <br />7. Initial Watering: Trees shall be watered in with a minimum <br />of 15 gallons of water per tree immediately after planting, and <br />
