Areas to be graded shall be cleared of brush and any other
material that would interfere with reclamation operations. Boulders,
other rocks, and similar material shall be buried or otherwise placed
where they do net interfere with reclamation r~perations, planned land
use, or adversely affect plant growth.
An effort should be made to reconstruct the soil with materials
available on the site. Same disturbance with little thought of
reclamation has already occured on the site. As we discussed there
is an area with soil material that is suitable for reclamation on the
west side of the property. Soils to the east of the property will
also be suitable. This material may turn out to be sufficient to
cover the entire area. The reconstruction material should be
stockpiled in an area away from the main operation and protected for
use as final cover material. In the event there is not enough
suitable soil material on location, topsoil will need to be hauled in
from another sit=_. Any areas u=_ed for borrow material will also need
to be graded and shaped to blend in with the adjacent landscape and
final slopes of the area to be reclaimed.
All roads to be reclaimed and excavations should be shaped and
graded to blend in v+ith the original slope.
Any high walls should be graded to a lower slope if possible, or
if they are to be covered, sloped on a 1!2 to 1 slope before the soil
is placed against the wall. There will mast likely be some quartz
monzonite ledges or pegmatite di4:es to deal with in this manner.
Final grading should leave slopes flatter than 3:1, a+here at all
Possible. Slopes of 6:1 or flatter are much more desirable for
greater success in reve9etation and operation of equipment. In some
areas, shallow depressions might be left after final shaping. These
would serve to collect water to encourage the establishment of native
trees and shrubs, as well as providing some e~;tra wildlife habitat.
The drainageway that run along the west edge of the property may be a
possible location for a shallow depression.
At the time of reclamation, the stec4:piled topsoil should be
spread about 6 inches thick: over the area to be reclaimed and then
disced or ripped to incorporate it with the subsurface material.
FERTILIZATION: We recommend that fertilizer be applied to the area to
be reclaimed, either prior to seeding or after grass seedling=_ have
reached the 2 to 3 leaf stage. No less fhan 20 pounds of of nitrooen
(N? and 40 pounds of phosFhate ~P,nSg.~ per acre should be applied,
unless a soil analysis indicates ``=_ufficient amounts of these
elements. Animal manures, or similar organic material, may be used
to supply all er part of the specified nutrients. .
