Gle fee.i that several items need to be clarified in both the
mining and reclamation plans that apply to all 5 applications before eye
present them to the Board in May.
To complete your mining plans, we need to knoea to what depth gravel will be
extracted from each pit and the volume of topsoil to be stockpiled. Please
provide a statement saying that these stockpiles will be located such that
damage due to erosion will be minimized. Also, an appropriate vegetative
cover should be maintained on the topsoil stockpile to minimize erosion during
the mining operation.
The water information provided sugges_t~.s that no ground water will be encountered.
we should be notified if this proves^ o be the case.
To develop the reclamation plans, a statement to the effect that you wi1.1 follow
the Soil Conservation Service recommendations shoulr7 be provided. In addition
to the grasses suggested by SCS, we would suggest adding nn appropriate shrub
(sage is a native shrub and is well ad,ipted to the area).
Complete reclamation is not required until the pit is final]q abandoned. 7row-
ever, for temporary abandonment, safetrl and erosion probl~~ns should be ~~~~oided
(i.e., by grading steep pit walls, etc.). If erosive problems develep, 1-arhaps
as a result of heavy rain storms or strong winds, appropriate remedial actions
toi11 be required.
Fences or other measures should be talon to prevent overg•a~~n? during
reclamation.
