Material samples obtained during [he subsurface investigation were tested in the laboratory [o
provide data on the classification and engineering characteristics of [he subgrade soils. The results of
the field and laboratory investigations are presented herein.
This report has bees prepazed [o summarize the data obtained and to present our conclusions and
recommendations, based on the existing conditions encountered and the assumed traffic loadings. A
discussion of geo[echnical engineering considerations related to resurfacing of the access road are also
included.
We understand that this access road is approximately 3,700 fee[ in length. The access road will
typically be subjected to pickup truck traffic and occasional delivery and construction truck traffic;
however, the northern 2,000 Feet of the roadway situated between the batch load out facility and the
dragline will be subjected to a considerable amount of heavy truck traffic associated with the
disassembly and removal of the dragline from [he mine property.
Subsurface Conditions: The field investigation for this project was conducted on September 13, 1995.
Four (4) test holes were advanced along the roadway to explore the subgrade conditions and to obtain
samples for laboratory testing. The test holes were drilled with a [rack-mounted drill rig utilizing 6-
inch diameter augers. The test holes were advanced to depths ranging from 3 to 4 feet. The test holes
were logged by a representative of Northwest Colorado Coosul[ants, [oc. Graphic logs of the test holes
are not drawn; however, a discussion of the subgrade soil types encountered in the test holes are
. presented later in this report.
(970) 879.7888 • Fax (970) 879.7891
29585 U.S. 40 West, Box 775226 • Steamboat Springs, CO 80477 ~R a6
