All topsoil will be stripped off and stockpiled separately
from the sand-gravel overburden. The topsoil ranges from
two to twelve inches in depth, four to five inches is average.
Stockpiling will be to the east of the areas being mined as
designated on the map.
B. Portions of the affected area are in the Coal Creek flood
plain but no mining will take place within the flood plain.
The flood plain is that area irr~nediately north of the road.
The original proposal was to provide drainage from the mined
pits to Coal Creek by shallow drainage ditches. The water
analyses provided by the Thorne study indicate that this
water would not be harmful to the Coal Creek environment..
2. Reclamation Plan
A. The overburden appears to be unsuitable for plant growtF~;
hence, topsoil will be stockpiled separately and replaced
after final grading.
B. The following seed mixture will be sown on the affected area:
a. Western Wheatgrass 3 lbs. P.L.S./Acre
b: . .Blue Gromma 1 lb. P.L.S./Acre
c. Big Blue Stem 1 1b. P.L.S./Acre
d. Tall Wheatgrass, 3 lbs. P.L.S./Acre
plus 1/2 lb. Yellow Sweet Clover
Amount doubled if broadcast seeded.
3, Reclamation Plan Ma
A. The final contours, after reclaiming, will be unaffected on
a contour interval of 10 feet. The clay pits that are some
25 feet deep after mining will be backfilled so that thE~y
are less than 10 feet deep. When possible, the pits wi~il
be back filled to the original surface plane.
