• Average biomass for the sagebrush type amounted to ]04.6 grams per squaze meter plot, <br />This consisted of 19.6 grams perennial grasses, ].63 grams perennial forbs, 74.38 grams <br />shrubs (sagebrush} and 7.99 grams for annual grasses (cheatgrass). Therefore perennial, <br />non-noxious herbaceous productivity summed to 2].23 grams per square meter plot, or <br />189 pounds per acre. <br />The average density of the only shrub of consequence (big sagebrush) was 14.92 plants <br />per 9 square meter plots with an average height of 64.01 centimeters. <br />3.6.2.12 Mountain Shrub <br />This community occupies a small azea on the uppermost reaches of the outlined surface <br />facilities azea. The soils are gravelly and shallow and the slopes moderate to steep with <br />a northerly aspect. <br />Major shrub species are mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus montanus), Utah serviceberry <br />(Amelanchier utahensis~, big sagebrush, and a few scattered Gambel oak uercus <br />ambelii and western snowberry (Symphoricarpos occidentalis). Common understory <br />associates include green needlegrass (Stipa viridulal, Kentucky bluegrass (Poa ~ratensis) <br />and scarlet globemallow (Sphaeralcea coccinea). <br />3.6.2.1.3 Irrigated Hayland <br />• The cultivated land below the sagebrush community on the more gradual slopes <br />is composed of irrigated hayland. This land is pianted to an alfalfa-brome mix and is <br />surface irrigated. The average production from this area is up to three tons of hay per <br />acre annually.
