Baca Sel•ies
The Baca series consists of deep, well-drained, nearly
level loamy soils that are free of harmful salts.
The stu•face layer is light brownish-gray loam about 5
inches thick. The inttike of tr•ater is moderate.
The subsoil, tehich is about 11 inches thick, is dark-
brown clay loam in the upper Part and brown silty clay
loam in the lower part. It has distinct prismatic structure.
The prisms, which are about 1 inch in diameter, crumble
into small apgregatcs. When exposed by plowing, the ag-
gregates maln'tnln their shape and are not easily eroded. ;
The subsoil is free of lime except in the lower part. ~
Tho underlying material is limy, wind-deposited silty "
clay loam that grades to limy clay loam at a depth of about i;.
32 inches. Plant roots easily penetrate this layer. The
water-holding capacity is good.
Baca soils are moderately fertile. Tlley have good water-
holding capacity and are free of harmful salts. They are '
oasy to work but, if cultivated, are readily eroded by wind. ;
These soils are used for range or dryland farming.
