3) In the Mining Plan it is stated that 6~8 inches of topsoil material will be stripped and stockpiled.
Please clarify the approximate location of the topsoil stockpile (i.e. along the pit edge as a berm,
etc.) Also, it is required that topsoil be protected from erosion if left in place for longer than 1
growing season. Most of the time, it is seeded with a nurse crop or the approved seed mix.
Please clarify what measures will be taken to protect the topsoil form erosion.
4) The Mining and Reclamation Map shows that all waters will be retained within the pit area.
Please clarify if stormwater or overflows will be allowed into the wetlands to the west.
5) The Reclamation Plan does not clearly state approximately how many acres will be seeded and
how many will be reclaimed as pond. Please clarify.
6) Please submit either a typical seed tag or more information as to the type, ratio and pls of the
proposed seed mix.
7) Under Exhibit F, please clarify that no Conditional or Special Use permits are required.
The above review is a preliminary review based on information supplied to date. More issues may need
to be clarified depending on response by the applicant or as other additional information is received.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 South Third Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone
no. 970-241-1117
Sincerely,
G. Russell Means
Environmental Protection Specialist
