<br />COMMENTS RECEIVED BY DMG
<br />Prior to the close of the public comment period, DMG received the following written
<br />objections and comments.
<br />1. Letter of objection from Randall Shepard, dated 2115/99, received by DMG on
<br />2/17(99, stated concerns for rate of production, extent of impacted area, potential
<br />modifications to the post mining land use to included industrial and solid waste
<br />disposal site, land use and zoning laws, potential flooding of affected areas, and
<br />apparent absence of public support for the proposed operation.
<br />2. Letter of objection from Fay C. Simpson, dated 2!23/99, received by DMG on
<br />2!23!99, stated concerns for traffic safety, Scenic Byway, wildlife, public
<br />notification, noise pollution, dust and air pollution, property value, quality of life,
<br />concentration of mining operations, life of mine, poor success of previous
<br />reclamation efforts, and potential target for law suits.
<br />3. Letter of objection from Jerald M. Young, dated 2/23!99, received by DMG on
<br />2/23!99, stated concerns for property value, noise pollution, dust and air pollution,
<br />wildlife, potential ecological impacts to aquatic systems and fish, and traffic safety.
<br />4. Written comments from the Delta County Planner, dated 2/22199, received by DMG
<br />on 2123199, identified a potential error in a previous land survey for an adjacent
<br />subdivision.
<br />5. Written comments from the US Army Corps of Engineers, dated 1127199, received
<br />by DMG on 2/1 /99, stated that jurisdictional waters of the US, including wetlands,
<br />exist within pit boundaries.
<br />Any interested person may participate in the Informal Conference by submitting written
<br />comments or by appearing in person. Any issue raised orally by any party at the Informal
<br />Conference, that was not previously submitted in writing, shall be submitted in writing to
<br />DMG by such party within five working days after the Informal Conference. Submit
<br />written comments to Division of Minerals and Geology, 484 Turner Drive, Building F, Suite
<br />101, Durango, CO 81301, by 5:00 p.m., March 19, 1999.
