Uep?. et h'sYural P.ese~rces
This report covers the reclamation plan for the county gravel
pit located above Cedar Creek, approximately 9 miles east of Montrose.
This was developed bg the Soil Conservation Service in cooperation
with the Shawano Soil Conservation District,
The natural vegetation surrounding the pit consists mostly o.f
a ?inyon-Juniper Woodland tir-ith a shrub understory. Very little
grass is growing in the community. The plants that make up the sate
are:
Grasses:
galleta
cheatgrass
Indian ricegrass
squirreltail
k'estern wheatgrass
Shrubs:
tall rabbitbrush
big sagebrush
fringed sagebrush
serviceberry
greasewood
Trees:
pinyons
junipers
At the present time, the slopes around the pit are too steep.
Shaping and grading will have to take place before any kind of veg•-
etation can take hold. 2:1 slopes are a must with 3:1 or L:1 slopc>s
more desirable, There is enough soil mixed in with the gravel to
d bringing in any additional topsoil. Scarification of the
should be done before seeding is to take place, Plantings
