13. h. The soil consists of clays, sand and basalt fragments.
The thickness of this soil varies from 0 to 1 feet thick and
is distributed rather unevenly over the property.
i. The present vegetation covering the area in question is
described as being very sparse, consisting primarily of buffalo
and mountain grasses with no trees or shrubs.
j. The depth of the aggregate to be removed ranges from
0 to 300 feet as shown on the topography map. The over-burden
varies in thickness. The thickest portion of the over-burden
would be approximately 1 foot in depth interspersed with out-
cropings of rock. The overburden would best be described as con-
sisting of clays, sands and weathered basalt fragments.
k. The expected physical appearance of the area to be
mined will be as hereinafter described. The portion of the
dike under lease will ultimately be removed so that the base
of the operation will be level with the existing area. No
holes or depressions of any depth will be left after cessation
of mining. There will be a slight crown left in the middle
of the property running north and south so that the natural
drainage pattern will be unchanged; hence the direction of the
present drainage will be exactly the same after the mining is
concluded.
As stated in the land restoration agreement, sufficient
overburden will be replaced on the base of the operation and
buffalo and mountain grasses will be planted so as to restore
the area for livestock grazing purposes. There will be a
sequential restoration of the property in accordance with the
plan depicted on the attached topographical map.
The final benches at the north end of the property
will be planted with grass and shrubs in accordance with the
recommendation of the experts employed by agricultural exper-
iment stations. The final restoration will be performed
immediately after all of the material has been removed from
the property under lease.
The southerly end of the dike will be removed
and the final appearance of the area involved will be flat
land of the same final altitude as the surrounding flat
land, ~ahich is depicted in the artist's rendition attached
to this application.
