understandings reached in that meeting.
Dorchester will conduct its room and pillar mining
operations in the vicinity of the water line as depicted on the
mine plan map in Appendix A. Because of the depth of the coal,
surface manifestations of subsidence are realistically expected
to be minimal. No barrier pillars or other special modifications
in the mining techniques are contemplated. The following
monitoring and mitigation measures will be implemented:
3.5.1 Monitoring
The subsidence monitoring line, depicted on the
Subsidence Monitoring Map in Appendix A, will be installed and
monitored quarterly to identify the location, nature and
magnitude of any subsidence which could potentially impact the
line.
3.5.2 Repair
Dorchester will purchase and maintain on site 50 feet of 12"
PVC pipe to serve as replacement pipe in the event of breakage
due to Dorchester's operations. Dorchester will repair or
replace appropriate sections of the water line which are
clearly shown by the monitoring program to have been damaged
by subsidence from Dorchester's operations.
3.5.3 Local Go ernment Coordination
Dorchester will continue to work closely with the Florence
authorities in all aspects of the above monitoring and repair
obligations. In addition, Dorchester will cooperate wherever
possible with those authorities in their planning efforts aimed
. at a long-term solution to the current problems of Florence's
water supply system.
29
