use are surface cracking and subsidence troughs on the surface
pile. These areas would require regrading and filling to prevent
impoundment of water or increased localized seepage.
2.6.4 Fresh Water Pond No. 3 and Sedimentation Pond No. 4
Fresh water pond No. 3 is a completely excavated pond
located above the main entry. The location of this structure is
outside the limits of the planned retreat (see mine plan map).
The subsidence produced by development extraction is expected to
produce very little subsidence or surface cracking during the
life of the pond. In addition, the pond is expected to be
removed and the area reclaimed prior to subsidence.
The sedimentation pond is located outside the limits of
mining. Although the expected angle of draw (20-250) could reach
• the pond area, the magnitude of subsidence and surface strains
would not be significant and would not cause any impacts to the
structure.
2.6.5 Powet Substations and Power Lines
The possibility exists for adjacent power poles and
substations to be unevenly influenced. The result may be reduced
electrical clearances, due to tilting, and/or reduced ground
clearance, due to subsidence. Resultant strains in the power
lines would (in the opinion of officials from Southern Colorado
Power, who maintains the line) exceed the safe limits of the
lines. This could possibly result in material damage which
requires mitigating measures. The mitigating measures for this
condition are discussed in Section 3.0.
. 2.6.6 Florence Cityr Water Line
The Florence City water line within the permit area consists
21
