The
itgpacte of this mining proposal could greatly affect the future
environmental quality of the park. The following is a list of
concerns and recommendations:
1. VISUAL IMPACTS of the mining operation from Castlewood Canyon
State Park, including new park development in Sections 23-26
at 6600' elevation, should be minimized, to wit:
a. Material stockpiles should not be visible from the new
park headquarters or picnic areas,
b. Processing plants should not be visible from the new
park headquarters or picnic areae.
c. Dust from mining and processing should be minimized, and
d. Fxcees rock and overburden should not be pushed down
exposed hillsides.
2. NOIST of operation should be minimized so as not to degrade
the tranquil nature of (,astlewood Canyon State Park, to wit:
a. Blasting noise should be minimized, and
b. Hack-up warning devices on trucks and loaders should be
monitored and should not be audible from the park.
3. TRANSPORTATION to the mine should not involve Douglas County
Highway 51, which Hans through Castlewood Canyon State Park.
It is a narrow, winding road which is only one lane wide in
marry places. Truck traffic and employee traffic from the
gravel operation should be routed around the park and Douglas .
County Highway 51 in order to avoid traffic accidents, excess
eir pollution, and disruption of park visitation.
Roy Rumer
Governul
Ron G Hulllday
Director
barn 4aRe
u+o1 P~cae~i.
