Off road vehicles are currently prohibited from using any portion of
the permit area. Only authorized traffic on designated roads is
permitted. Again, disturbance to the wildlife within the mine area
is minimized. The appearance of dogs in the area is restricted
since employees are not allowed to have dogs on the premises.
GEC Minerals, Inc. does not allow hunting or the discharging of
firearms within the mine area.
Pesticides and herbicides will be used to control unwanted noxious
weeds and/or insects which could potentially destroy the recla-
mation vegetation. Only approved herbacides will be used.
The approximate original contour of the disturbed area will
be restored as described earlier. Restoration of the approximate
original contour will reestablish the original soil aspect and
• drainage patterns which existed prior to mining. This reconstruction
effort will allow for suitable wildlife setting similar to that
found in adjacent undisturbed areas and to that found in the mine
area prior to mining.
Protection of Hydrologic Balance. GEC Minerals, Inc. currently
utilizes several methods which minimize changes in surface water
quality and the hydrologic balance in the mine plan area and the
adjacent area. Erosion is controlled primarily by minimizing the
total disturbed area at any one time. In addition, sediment and
drainage control is completed by utilizing diversion ditches and
sediment control structures downstream of all disturbed areas.
Backfilling and grading, mulching, topsoil replacement and subsequent
revegetation are completed as soon as possible to also minimize the
wind and water erosion which could potentially occur. In addition,
runoff from disturbed areas is diverted around the disturbed mining

2.05-40
