M-94-
093), for Cooley Gravel Company to conduct surface mining and reclamation in Commerce
City, Colorado.
The City of Thornton diverts water from the South Platte River at the Burlington Ditch
Headgate, so any project which may impact the water quality or quantity is of concern.
We ask that the Division of Minerals and Geology take the following concerns into
consideration before issuance of a permit:
Open-pit mining may expose groundwater to evaporation Cooley Gravel
Company should develop an augmentation plan which is approved by the
State Engineers Office.
Cooley Gravel Company should not be allowed to generate any mining by-
products which could contaminate surface or groundwater.
Cooley Gravel Company should post sufficient bond to cover all future
reclamation costs.
Thank you for considering our concerns regarding this permit application. If there are any
questions, please call me at 538-7408.
Sincerely,
~(,u~e..
~-~~
Dave Bennett
Water Resources Administrator
DB:sb
cc: Mark Koleber, Water Resources Manager
885 ML
i Uzi Dui darn ~sboctnoo~ey
The City of Planned Progress
