Section 780.21 Continued
• The 8050 pit pumps surface water which collects in the pit from snowmelt.
Energy Well No, 7 pumps water out of the aquifer in the overburden above the
Wadge Seam at an average rate of approximately 0.019 CFS. This rate is
approximately one-half that of the boxcut dewatering rate, and, therefore,
will have even less effect on the aquifer than the boxcut dewatering.
In the unlikely event that surface mining activities conducted by Colorado
Yampa Coal Company cause either qualitative or quantitative injury to
another water user, CYCC's substantial surface and ground water rights
within the area which would be able to be used to mitigate any possible
injury. These water rights are discussed under Section 779.17 and are set
forth in Table 16, Ditch Rights, Table 17, Storage Rights, and Table 18,
Underground Rights.
Ponitoring Program
Colorado Yampa Coal Company will continue its comprehensive monitoring
• program of surface and ground water quality and quantity throughout the term
of the proposed mining operations. The monitoring program will not only
provide compliance with 30 CFR 816.52, but will serve as an integral part of
program for protection of the hydrologic balance by detecting any possible
problems with respect to water quality or quantity.
The plan for hydrologic monitoring is described in further detail within
Exhibit 8, Hydrologic Monitoring Program, of the Permit Renewal Document.
The Monitoring Well Completion Summary, Table 14 of the Permit Renewal
Document presents the completion summary for the wells included within the
current monitoring plan. Other historical information is presented in Table
102, Monitor Well Inventory (page 780-173 through 780-174 (c)).
•
MR 90-58 780-i70 Revised 09/07/90
