The more common species are spreading fleabane IFiu ge2vrt <br />dive2gvu+.~l, dark goosefoot (Chertvpvdium v#~tvvirteMl, yellow salsify, and <br />bluebur stickseed ILappuda ~edvw~hiil. Other minor plant species are listed <br />in Table 7. <br />Production <br />Total average production is 44.9 g/2 m2 or about 200 Ibs/acre. <br />Perennial fortis account for about 55 percent of total production. Perennial <br />graminoids comprise approximately 35 percent of the production, composed <br />primarily of Indian ricegrass, mutton bluegrass, squirreltail, needle-and- <br />• thread, and sand dropseed ISpvavGvdu~ ucyptandicu~l. Oheatgrass, an annual <br />graminoid, produces an average of 1.1 g/2 m2, or about 8 percenT of the total. <br />Native and introtluced annuals produce 1.0 and 1.1 g/2 m2, respectively (Table 81. <br />Shrub Density and Height <br />Total shrub density averages 9.6 shrubs/50 m2 or about 770 shrubs/ <br />acre. Big sagebrush accounts for about 40 percent of the total with 3.8 <br />shrubs/50 m2. Other important species are Gambel oak and true mountain <br />mahogany (Table 91. <br />Shrub height ranges from 194 cm for skunkbush sumac to 40.2 cm for <br />antelope bitterbrush. Big sagebrush averages about 52 cm. Gambel oak and <br />true mountain mahogany average 154 and 123 cm, respectively. <br />Tree Density <br />Total tree density for The Pinyon-Juniper Woodland vegetation <br />type averages 17.0 trees/250 m2 or about 275 trees/acre. Pinyon pine accounts <br />for about 70 percent of the total with 12.2 trees/250 m2, while Utah juniper <br />averages only 4.8 trees/250 m2 (Table 101. Most stands are moderately dense, <br />but more open stands also are present. Estimated tree heights range from <br />about 2 m to 9 m and average about 7 m. <br />C~ <br />-11- <br />
