'• 4.3.1 All Hazard Zones
The joints for all the hazard zones are shown in a combined plot in Figure 6. The
1 upper diagram is the scatter diagram comprised of 160 joint orientations. The lower diagram
is the Schmidt equal area plot.
The Schmidt plot in this diagram is contoured using the following convention:
1 % contour designated by +
2% contour designated by 1
4% contour designated by 2
6% contour designated by 3
8% contour designated by M
l
The strongest set, as might be expected, is the bedding plane joint set with a
~i maximum concentration of 8.7% and an average orientation of 345/7. Some scatter was
observed in the field due to rolls in the bedding and some scatter is seen on the plot. This
set is fairly "tight" and suggests a high degree of uniformity for the joint patterns along the
entire length of outcrop that was mapped (i.e. Hazard Zones 1 through 6).
Seven reasonably strong sets of joints (including the bedding plane joints) can be
seen on this plot, which have a concentration of 4% or higher. There are two weaker sets.
The joint sets are defined in Table 2, and included in Table 3 along with the joint sets
determined for the individual zones.
4.3.2 Hazard Zones 1 throuPh 4
~ Only 46 joints were mapped in Hazard Zones 1 through 4. The main reason was
! due to a lack of outcrops for Zones 1, 3 and 4, the presence of slumped zones (these were
J not mapped, since these joints orientations had been disturbed), and the sparsity of accessible
J• 17
