• profile, is included. An evaluation of each great group and miscellaneous land type's
suitability as a topsoil resource is not provided in Addendum 9-6-5 because tfiese map
units, with exception to ponds, will not be disturbed by mining activities.
All soils have suitable characteristics for salinity {EC), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR),
and carbonates. The major restrictive physical limitation to topsoil salvage is the high
clay content associated with the fine, montmorillonitic soil families (Aaberg, Binco,
Buckskin, Gapo, and Routt series). A significant secondary limitation for the soils which
occur in drainage landscape positions is shallow ground water levels (Gapo, Routt variant,
Chaperton variant).
Routt soiis also had very strongly acidic reaction values associated with the fine
textured argillic horizons. A significant landscape feature which may influence topsoil
salvage is the excessive slopes associated with map units 2VF, XBF, 72F, 99, and R0.
However, these map units do not occur within the current disturbance area.
Literature Citations
• Bass, N.W., J.
