•
EFFECTS OF MR-52 ON THE HYDROLOGICAL MONITORING PROGRAM
Pursuant to the successful application for bond release on much of the New Horizon I mine area,
effective November 2001, the following water monitoring sites were abandoned:
Groundwater (GW)
GW-N1 (4"dia well) GW-N10 GW-N11
GW-N24 GW-N25 GW-N26
GW-N28 GW-N4 GW-N4R
Surface Water (SW)
Spoil Spring #1 Spoil Spring #3
NPDES 002
NPDES 004
NPDES 006
NPDES 003
NDPES 005
NPDES 001
The monitoring wells abandoned were closed as per state regulations. Monitoring wells GW-N3,
GW-N8, and GW-N9 will be left open, but not monitored until required by the State at some as yet
to be determined date. The monitoring and the reclamation obligation of well GW-N1 P1 (2" dia)
was transferred to Montrose County, CO for their use at the old county landfill. Monitoring records
for the abandoned sites can be found in the Annual Hydrology Reports filed by W FC with the State
of Colorado.
APPROVED HYDROLOGICAL MONITORING PROGRAM
Table 2.04.7-1 summarizes various current approved monitoring sites. They are shown on Map
2.04.7-1A. For New Horizon 2 Mine, the sites are based upon recommendations made by
Greystone Consultants and subsequent revisions requested by WFC.The monitoring plan revised
as per TR38 will be adequate for the Garvey and eurbridge leases included in the permit boundary
and other mining areas to the west-northwest that WFC intends to include within the permit
boundary in the near future. TR-47 resumes the monitoring of wells GW-N16P1, GW-N17P1 and
GW-N18P1.
Map 2.04.7-1A shows the locations of surface stations and wells for the New Horizon Mine 2
monitoring program. Modifications to the existing monitoring locationsforsurfaceandgroundwater
are discussed below. All data will be reported in the annual hydrology report.
REVISED JULY 2006 2.04.7-43
