David Shelton <br />III IIIIIIIIII <br />sss IIIIII <br /> <br />RE: PfLRB FILE N0. 80-v7 <br />Dear Mr. Shelton: <br />Exxon Company, U.S.A., as operator of the Colony Shale Oil Project, a'joint <br />operation of Exxon Corporation and The Oil Shale Corporation, a wholly owned <br />subsidiary of Tosco Corporation, hereby submits the following additional <br />information to amend and supplement the application referred to above: <br />(1) With respect to Mr. James AfcArdle's memorandum of October 3, <br />1980 to Mr. John.Strawn, the operator herein commits to the <br />following: <br />(a) An average of no less than eighteen (18) inches of soil and <br />topsoil enhancement materials will be placed on the spent <br />shale disposal area. For the purposes of this paragraph, <br />the term "average" s}(all mean the mode of the distribution <br />of measurements, to the nearest inch, of soil depth verification . <br />tests conducted on reclaimed terraces and slopes. Soil depth <br />verification tests sl(all be conducted in the followinb manner: <br />For every fifteen (15) acres reclaimed, one (1) acre, selected <br />at random, shall he sampled sixteen (16) times in a grid <br />pattern such that each sample is 50 feet from the next closest <br />sample in any direction. Sampling shall be accomplished by <br />means of a small (1 inch diameter) sampler inserted perpendicular <br />to the soil. so as to minimize disturbance to the reclaimed <br />area. Thu A and B horizon, as defined in the application, may <br />be combined but should, where possible, be separated from any C <br />horizon material, as defined in the application, that may be <br />salvaged. Any C horizon material which is salvaged must be <br />.placed below P. and B horizons or mixtures thereof. Topsoil and <br />suitable cover material recovery shall be maximized to achieve <br />the objective of eighteen (18) inches of cover or greater, however <br />no acreage additional to the spent shale disposal site, the plant <br />site and Davis Gulch and Middle Fork dam sites shall be disturbed <br />to provide soil cover for the spent shale area. <br /> <br />
