M-77-285, M-
77-416, M-78-039, M-80-055, and M-81-021 (respectively: Sunday, Carnation, St. Jude,
Topaz, and West Sunday Mines).
Dear Ms. Relunann,
The Division has recently completed its recalculation of required financial warranty amounts for
the above-named mines, as a follow up to the permit transfers. The estimated reclamation costs
were based on the existing approved mining and reclamation plans (including amendments and
revisions, where applicable), and observations made onsite during the recent inspections. In the
paragraph below I have summarized the existing and recalculated amounts. Attached are the
detailed breakdowns for each mine.
Mine Existing bond Recalculated amount
M-77-285 Sunday Mine $80,000 $74,932
M-77-416 Carnation Mine $10,000 $16,236
M-78-039 St. Jude Mine $17,800 $19,402
M-80-055 Topaz Mine $7,500 $22,689
M-81-021 West Sunday Mine $28,000 $33,399
These figures, being preliminary, are being sent to you for review (with copies also sent to Roger
Smith). I expect there will be minor modifications to these, but please be reminded that these
figures must cover all present tasks necessary to completely reclaim the site according to the
presently approved plan, plus any reasonable and foreseeable site development work. As I
mentioned in the inspection reports for these sites (dated 7/10/97) IUC's submittal of updated
maps for these sites, to be submitted by end of October, may also reflect differing acreages to be
treated or structures to be removed.
At present, there is no phased reclamation plan for any of these sites, so additional disturbance of
the sites, while being within the acreage limit of affected areas on the permit, may require
