The permit describes how reclamation and operations aze to <br />be conducted according to the requirements of the Rules associated with Title 34, Article 33, of the <br />Colorado Revised Statutes of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. <br />2.01.2 General Requirements for Existing Operations <br />Mountain Coal Company is filing this application for a permit to continue mining operations at the <br />West Elk Mine. This mine is located about two miles east of Somerset in Gunnison and Delta <br />Counties, Colorado. This applicationconstitutesarenewal ofexistingpermit C-80-007. The current <br />expiration date is July 31, 2001. <br />2.01.3 General Requirements for Permits for All Surface Coal <br />Mining and Reclamation Operations <br />The West Elk Mine operates under Permit C-80-007 issued by the Colorado Division of Minerals <br />and Geology (CDMG), Office of Mined Land Reclamation (OMLR). Mountain Coal Company <br />• expects to continue coal production at the West Elk Mine for 40 years or more under this life of <br />mine operation. <br />2.01.4 Permit Requirements for New Surface Coal Mining and <br />Reclamation Operations <br />This section does not apply to the West Elk Mine. <br />2.01.5 Permit Term <br />Mountain Coal Company will operate the West Elk Mine under a permit issued by the OMLR. <br />The mine will be permitted in five-year increments. As the mining operation continues through <br />the term of the permit, additional renewal and revisions, where required, will be made to <br />continue mining at the West Elk Mine. The current five-year permit term was issued on July 31, <br />1996 and will expire on July 31, 2001. <br />2.01.6 Permit Fees <br />Mountain Coal Company filed permit fees with the original application submitted in 1980 to cover <br />the costs of administering, and enforcing this permit pursuant to the Rules of the Colorado Mined <br />Land Reclamation Act, as amended. <br />• <br />2. ~ 1-1 RcviscdNov. 1996 PR07 <br />
