The following fire fighting plan will be followed when evidence
of combustion is detected in the refuse pile:
1. Material will be removed from the area where
combustion is taking place using front-end
loaders, dozers, backhoes, trucks and/or
other suitable equipment.
2. The removed material will be placed at an
- alternate location within the ref use disposal
area and spread, rolled, and wet, if
necessary u.-.til it is cooled sufficiently.
3. The material will then be compacted with a
loader or sheepsfoot compactor. If
necessary, a layer of non-combustable
material will be placed over the susceptible
area to cut off oxygen and prevent
reoccurance of combustion.
4. The area where material was removed from will
be regraded and recompacted. New material
will be placed in the void if the amount of
material removed was large. If necessary,
non-combustable material will be placed over
the susceptible area to cut off oxygen and
prevent reoccurance of combustion.
Only those persons authorized by the operator, who have an
understanding of this plan, shall be involved in fire fighting
in the refuse area.
