STATE OF COLOIZ~DO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Gep, Amenl of N, wn Resources
13r 3 Sherman SL Roam 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (3031 965-3567
rqx: (303) 832-8106 RECEIVED
Apfil 7, 1995
APR 18 1995
Mr. Aaron Million
245 South Cascade Ave. Division of Minerals 8 Geology
P.O. Box 25
Montrose, CO 81402
RE: Spring Creek Gravel Pit, File No. M-94-097, Montrose County
Dear Mr. Million:
~~~
DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL
RESOURCES
Ray Romer
Governor
pm,~ 5. Lrchhr~d
F.ecutlve Dvrcrnr
Michael6 Lane
Division Direclet
I reviewed your response to my second adequacy letter. There are only a couple of items that
still need to be clarified or addressed.
1. As has.been stated, the new access road you propose to construct will enter your
easement from the west off of a county maintained road. The length of the new
road will be about t 900 feet with a width of about 20 feet. This amounts to
about .9 of an acre. Even though you will not be required to reclaim the road, it
must be in the permit area pursuant to Rule 6.3.3(1)(g). So, unless I
miscalculated, your permit area will contain 40.9 acres. From rite east end of the
newly constructed access road, to the northwest corner of the proposed mining
area, you intend to use the existing faun road to access the permit area. Since the
road will not be improved it will not have to be in the permit area-
2. I want to be very clear about the topsoil stockpile area. You state you will
stockpile topsoil on the rim of the depression area so it will not have an affect ort
the watercourse. As long as the topsoil stockpile is not in any danger of being
eroded, I don't have any problem where you locate it.
3. Please submit a revised exhibit F map showing the expected final topography of
the pit.
4. Based on your proposed mining and reclamation plans I have determined that
your financial warranty requirement will be $14,000.00 for the phased operation.
A permit will not be issued until an adequate financial warranty is submitted to,
and approved by, the Division.
If you have any questions give me a call.
S/i7ncerely,
~ / 1~\ ( ~,
~ James Dillie
Environmental Protection Specialist
M:105SaminlSCrc.Y_jtl
