• • The slope of the land in the active mining area commonly exceeds a 10% grade.
Rule 2.04
• The active mining uea is not irrigated or narurally sub-irrigated. The average annual precipitation
in the region exceeds 14 inches a yeaz.
• The mine area is not frequently flooded.
• The Soil Conservation Service does not classify any of the soils in Routt County as prime farm
land.
• H-G Coal Company requested a negative prime farmland determination on the basis that the
mine plan area was not historically used as farmland, had no slopes greater than 10 pucent, was
not irrigated or narurally sub-irrigated, and did not have any soil map units designated as prime
farmland.
• Correspondence with the Soil Conservation Service detemvned that no soil within the proposed
permit area is classified as prime farmland because of the short growing season and cool
temperatures .
Based on these considerations, the MLRD made a negative determination for the presence of prime farm
lands within the permit azea.
•
•
2.04-8 Revised -11/28/95
