The average annual precipitation <br />in the region exceeds 14 inches a yeaz. <br />• The mine area is not frequently flooded. <br />• The Soil Conservation Service does not classify any of the soils in Routt County as prime farm <br />land. <br />• H-G Coal Company requested a negative prime farmland determination on the basis that the <br />mine plan area was not historically used as farmland, had no slopes greater than 10 pucent, was <br />not irrigated or narurally sub-irrigated, and did not have any soil map units designated as prime <br />farmland. <br />• Correspondence with the Soil Conservation Service detemvned that no soil within the proposed <br />permit area is classified as prime farmland because of the short growing season and cool <br />temperatures . <br />Based on these considerations, the MLRD made a negative determination for the presence of prime farm <br />lands within the permit azea. <br />• <br />• <br />2.04-8 Revised -11/28/95 <br />
