`J
-7-
medium hard to hard ciaystone bedrock which the reclaim structure will
be founded on at a lower level of 6384.50 feet. Swell-consolidation
tests performed on clay samples indicate settlement potential to be
relatively low but may be experienced differentially due to somewhat
variable depths of clay. Core recovery from Test Hole 9 shows moderately
low to fair RQD values representative of the Jointing condition. Swell-
consolidation tests, shown in Fig. 16, indicate the ciaystone to possess
moderately high swell potential.
Free water was generally encountered In Test Holes 7 through 11 at
the time of drilling, and when measured 1 to 7 days after drilling had
stabilized at about Elevation 6397.
Train Loadout: At the train loadout, the maJority of clay over-
• burden soils encountered co approximate 7-to 9-foot depths will be
removed to achieve a final surface grade of 6397.5 feet. Underlying
ciaystone bedrock is medium hard to hard and possesses moderately high
sv+ell potential and relatively high supportive capacity.
Free water was. not encountered during drilling; however, several
__ days afterward, a free water level approximately equal to the proposed
final grade had developed.
Office and Change House: Subsoils in proximity to the office and
change house are somewhat variable and consist of 6 to 7 feet of medium
stiff clay with tniermittent granular material overlying ciaystone
bedrock. Results of swell-consolidation fasts on clay soils, shown on
Fig. 19 indicate ell swell potential. -
u

'~ i
