Backfilling is being done concur-
rently with mining operations. Topsoil will be scattered on the backfilled
area to a depth of 4 inches.
The post-mining land use will be agricultural, which fits into the surrounding
land, as the surrounding land is agricultural. Plo residential or commercial
areas are in the vicinity.
The slopes of the land of the reclaimed area will be a minimum of 3:1 around
the boundary of the pit area. The reclaimed area will be leveled sufficiently
to permit normal vehicular travel over the area and to permit the normal use
of farm machinery in seeding and maintenance operations. As pasture land,
this will fit into the adjacent land use with no problems.
Overburden and topsoil will be stockpiled adjacent to the mined area, and
will be replaced to an elevation above the normal water table for final
leveling and reseeding.
In the sandy loam area,
grama, little bluestem,
wheatgrass are suitable
interseeder or a firm,
prior to seeding, and a
proven most successful.
switchgrass, sand bluestem, sand reed grass, sideoats
blue grama, pubescent wheatgrass and intermediate
for seedinn. For successful seeding, use of an
dean sorghum stubble, prepared the growing season
grass drill are required. Early sprinn seeding has
Management of vegetation on the Aquolls and Aquepts soil should be based on
taking half and leaving half of the total annual production. Switchgrass,
big bluestem, Indiangrass, western wheatgrass, pubescent wheatgrass, inter-
mediate wheatgrass, tall wheatgrass and tall fescue are suitable for seedinn.
A firm, prepared seedbed and a grass drill should be used. Early spring
seeding is most successful.
S~' ~ ° ~~-
.A a
I • .
r Dy,.
~... ~ .'~
