G WILDLIFE STATEMENT • • The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by the Mined Land Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining permit for "23 Road Pit", Corn Construction CO., P.O. Box1240. Grand Junction, CO 81501 The Colorado Division of Wildlife does hereby find, to the best of our knowledge, that the impact of the proposed mining operation on wildlife will be x minor moderate major Mine Location: NEQSE, and Lot 9, Sec. 6 and W;SW;SW;, Sec. 5, T1S, R1W, Ute Meridian Wildlife Species List: (may be attached) Bald Eagle Mallard Duck Great Blue Heron Gambel's Quail • Snowy Egret Pheasant Canada Goose Mourning Dove Endangered Species Impacted: Bald Eagle, Colorado Squawfish, Humpback Chub, Razorback Sucker. Assessment of Impact on Wildlife: (may be attached) Impacts to any of the above species can be prevented or mitigated by proper management and reclamation. Proper sediment control will prevent any impacts to fish. Leaving mature cottonwood trees will insure that bald eagles are not affected and will also insure future nesting habitat for mourning doves, and some nongame avian species. Pit shorelines and bottom profiles must be as irregular as possible to maximize fish and wildlife values. The greater the shoreline distance to surface acre ratio, the Qreater the wildlifg values. Reclamation Recommendations: (may be attached) 1. Pit shorelines must be left irregular. Rectangular pits with flat bottoms are unacceptable. If necessary, use spoils to create irregular bottom profile. 2. Leave as much brush and trees as possible (see site plan). Any trees or brush that must be cut should be left in randomly scattered piles 5'-10' in diameter and 3'-8' high near undisturbed vegetation as cover for small mdmmals and ground birds. • Prepared by William D.
