1. The nearest well is approximately 1,000 feet away from the northwestern mining <br /> boundary. It is highly unlikely that the cone of depression due to dewatering will have an effect <br /> on a well this far away. This well is up gradient of the mining area and to our knowledge, has <br /> not been impacted by ongoing dewatering operations in the area. <br /> 2. If any substantial drawdown does occur during mining and is directly related to the <br /> dewatering operation, the applicant will work with the affected well owners to mitigate the <br /> impacts. Suggested mitigation alternatives include: 1) supplying the owners with temporary <br /> supplementary water, 2) lowering the pump in an existing well, 3) drilling a new well. <br /> Consumptive Uses <br /> The surrounding permit areas currently have Substitute Water Supply Plans in effect. <br /> Attachment G2 is provided as proof of this. Mining will soon be completed in the adjoining <br /> Stroh Pit (M-85-216) and the water needed for that operation will shift to this proposed <br /> operation. <br /> Kauff nan's will dewater the pit to enable dry mining and will continue to keep the pit dry for <br /> several years until the mining is completed. There will be less than 2 acres of water surface <br /> exposed in the pit due to the dewatering operation. A conservative estimate of 2.0 acres exposed <br /> water surface is used for the calculation of the consumptive use. The annual evaporation from <br /> 2.0 acres is 4.2 acre-feet. The annual production at the Wagner/Kauff nan Pit#3 will be <br /> approximately 200,000 tons. Assuming 4 percent by weight, the annual water use at the site will <br /> be 5.88 acre-feet. <br /> No water will be diverted from the pit for dust control. No washing of aggregate will be done at <br /> the Wagner/Kauff nan Pit#3. No water will be diverted from the pit for any other purposes. <br /> EXPECTED CONSUMPTIVE USE: <br /> acre-feet <br /> Total surface water evaporation (2 acres) 4.20 <br /> Water retained in mined material (200,000 tons) 5.88 <br /> TOTAL: 10.08 <br /> Consumptive use is not expected to change during the life of this site. The water consumption <br /> due to mining will not increase. As the east portion of the site will be backfilled, no exposed <br /> water areas will be left, except for those currently existing. The west portion of the site will be <br /> one lined reservoir. There will be no exposed groundwater to augment evaporative losses from. <br />
