ABSTRACT
• On June 8-10, 1987 Powers Elevation, Inc. (Powers) performed
a cultural resources inventory of about 180 acres in Sections
6 and 7, T.SN., R.86w., Routt County, Colorado, for Peabody
_ Coal Company (Peabody). The project area is proposed
' as an extension of the Seneca II coal mine, on lands owned
by the State of Colorado and leased to Cyprus Minerals.
Powers conducted the work under Colorado State Permit
No. 87-1, so that the possible adverse effects of the
project on significant cultural properties can be reviewed
-- by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and the
Colorado Mine Land Reclamation Division (CMLRD) as part
of the mine permitting process.
The project area was inventoried by a professional archae-
olggist walking about 30 m transects. The goal of the
investigations was to locate, record, identify, and evaluate
all cultural resources in the survey area.
One isolated prehistoric artifact was located and recorded
during the survey. It is not eligible for nomination
to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Because
the project will not impact any significant cultural sites
it is recommended that it be allowed to proceed as planned.
~J
•
