19
artifacts suggests that this may be a locally procured
• lithic material. No other flakes or tools were found
in the vicinity, indicating that the stone chipping activities
were isolated, and perhaps random. The artifact found
by Powers is neither temporally or culturally diagnostic,
_, and can add little to what is known about regional prehistory.
Because SRT531 is a single isolated piece of debitage
it is not significant, and should not be considered eligible
for nomination to the NRHP.
9.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
The single isolated find is not eligible for nomination
to the NRHP, and no further archaeological work should
be necessary at this location. It appears that no significant
cultural resources will be affected by the proposed project,
and that the potential for undetected resources is low
because of the topography. Powers, therefore, recommends
that the project be allowed to proceed as planned.
10.0 REFERENCES CITED
Antevs, Ernst
1955 Geologic-Climatic Dating in the West.
