It is
contemplated that the mining in question will occur in such
a way that the majority of the mined area will remain
generally level after completion of mining. Grade will be
restored by a bulldozer after removal of minerals is com-
pleted. The hill will be given a generally terraced appear-
ance with a gradual drop-off from the existing level of the
top of the hill to the new soil level established after
removal of minerals. Drainage patterns are not expected to
be substantially changed. The terraced contour of the hill
will eliminate "head walls" or near vertical drop-offs
adversely effecting soil retention or drainage patterns.
Maximum anticipated slope grade-in is anticipated to be in
the range of 30 percent to 35 percent. ~~
It is contemplated that a large portion of the mined
area will be used as a stock gathering and loading area. The
area not so used is expected to be reseeded using either a
Forest Service mixture or a mixture of sweet clover, winter
barley, western wheat grass, and crested wheat grass. It is
contemplated that crested wheat grass would be used at the
rate of six pounds of seed per acre and western wheat grass
at the rate of thirty-two pounds of seed per acre, with each
seed rate being divided by the number of types of grasses to
be included in the final planting mixture. Appropriate
ratios of sweet clover and winter barley have not been set
at this time. Input will be solicited from the Soil Conservation
Service concerning seeding rates for clover and barley.
The planting schedule would depend on time of com-
pletion of mining. The purpose of the chosen mixture would
be to enable the winter barley to become established and
