• Semoltng Parameters.
Cover. Cover date will include cover by species (both absolute and relative values),
total vegetative cover and cover values for litter, rock, and bare ground. Mosses end
lichens will be included if present.
Production. Production date will be collected es total herbaceous. In cases where
additional composition information is desired, production will be collected by herbaceous
growth forms. Shrub production will not be collected. Production values will be in
g/m2, lbs/ac, end kg/ha.
Moody Plant Density. The density of shrubs and trees by species per unit area will be
estimated. Shrub and tree establishment areas will be delineated and sampled separately
from the general reclaimed units. Yalues will be presented as #/plot, #/ac, and #/he.
Species List. A list of alL species observed during sampling wiLL be developed. Common
names will be included, as will life form, origin, and longevity. The initial species list
• will be upgraded in subsequent monitoring efforts.
Sampling Meth odoloaies.
Cover. Cover will be measured by the point-intercept method. The point-intercept
transact wilt be at least 25 meters long with a minimum of 50 points taken.
Production. Production data will be col.l acted by the harvest method. All herbaceous
ve etation occurrin within the vertical 2 2
g g projection of a t/2 m to 1 m plot will be
harvested es discussed in Sampling Parameters.
2
Moody Plant Density. woody plant densities will be measured in a 7 m x 50 m (50 m )
quadrat in the reference area and normally e 2 m x 50 m (100 m2) quadrat in the
revegetated areas. Larger or smeller quadrats may be used in reclaimed areas depending on
area fo be sampled or specific sampling goals.
Species List. The species list will be developed both from any spring flora
• investigations and from information gathered during peak growing season sampling.
SamDling Intensity. Because of the varying degree of disturbance or size of reclaimed
35
