l I
•
reference areas were not equivalent to their respective vegetation unite,
As in the production data, the stem density data Table 2.4-48 exhibit
the same pattern, i.e., the Sage/Snowberry and Mountain Shrub reference areas
were equivalent to their corresponding vegetation unite. The Subirrignted
Shrub reference area did not meet the equivalency test. Refer to Table 2.6-49
for a summary of equivalency for cover, production, and density for the
various vegetation units.
At the time this study was conducted, the choice of reference areas was
based on general topography, species composition, and cover aspect.
It is not an uncommon notion in ecological literature that cover is
often correlated with biomass. Thus, every effort was made to ensure that
representative areas were selected. The fact that productivity may differ
between references areas and affected areas does not preclude their use as a
means to evaluate reclamation efforts.
1.1.4.4 DotarmininQ Rovagotation 9uccoa•
Appendix 2.4-B contains the procedure that will be utilized to determine
revegetation success.
