D.8.1 Tailinos Disposal
' The mill tailings will be dewatered to a moisture content
of approximately 22 percent by a drum filtering or cycloning
and screening process prior to transportation to the south
waste rock disposal area. Dewatering in the mil reduces the
overall demand for makeup water by minimizing the amount of
water retained in the tailings voids and eventually lost to
the tailings disposal area.
Based on the proposed milling rate of 2.500 tpd and
' tailings moisture content of 22 percent, approximately 132,000
gallons or 0.4 acre-ft of water will be lost to the tailings
' disposal facility on a daily basis. Fora typical month, this
outflow rate will result in a loss of approximately 12 acre-
ft of water as noted in the last column of the water balance
spreadsheet.
D.8.2 Hean Leach Facility
For the heap leach facility, the monthly water flows
which were identified include the following:
' Inflows - Precipitation and runoff
~~ - Draindown from deactivated leach
areas
Losses - Pond evaporation
- Spray evaporation
- Wet-up of dry ore
I~ Precipitation and runoff have been estimated using the
average monthly precipitation values presented in Exhibit K
in conjunction with a runoff coefficient of 1.0. The 100-yr,
24-hr design storm for the project site has been determined
to be 2.9 inches of precipitation based on interpretation of
regional maps.
D-58
