The geotechnical characteristics of the tailings are
discussed in Section D.6.
Section D.3.5 discusses the relation of the assumed
' engineering properties to the stability analyses for the
various waste rock disposal areas.
D.3.3.2 Waste Rock Geochemistry
A laboratory testing program to oeochemically
characterize the waste rock from the San Luis Project has
' recently been completed. The waste rock samples te:>ted included
samples from each type of waste rock expected to be encountered
' during mining operations. The program resulted ire the testing
of eight samples, two samples each from four separate waste
' rock types. These eight samples are listed in Table D.3.3-1
along with the type of test performed on each sample. Test
results are included as Appendix F.
' Battle Mountain geologists familiar with the geologic
characteristics of the San Luis Project identified four
separate and distinct waste rock types present ~m site. The
' ~ geologists selected core to be used in the geochemical testing
program based on criteria established by tie projects
geochemical expert. ?he criteria included selecting a sample
' that was considered representative of the general rock type
being tested, selecting a sample that might represent a worst
' case for the rock type being tested, and ensuring that a
sufficient amount of material was available in the core
selected to complete the testing. Battle Mountain geologists
first reviewed the drill logs for drill holes wh~ch had been
' cored. They
t
h
d th then selected potential drill holes with
it
Th
f
th
i
l
d logs which
h
c
ma
e
e cr
er
a.
e core rom
e se
ecte oles was
examined to verify the logs.
