1
The East Pit disposal area will lie within the boundary
of the East Pit mine area. The East Pit mine area covers
approximately 20 acres. Disposal of approximately 2,000,000
tons of waste rock will occur in the East Pit.
' The pit configuration at the completion if mining is
shown on Eigure C-3. Backfilling of this configuration, using
approximately 2,000,000 tons of waste rock, is anticipated.
' No specific geotechnical information has been obtained
for the East Pit area. The foundation for waste rock disposal
will be the pit floor which will consist of biotite and biotite
amphibole gneiss bedrock materials.
' D.3.2.2 Southern Site
The southern waste rack/tailings disposal area lies north
' of the plant and crusher area and south of the Rito Seco. It
is much larger than the northern sites, covering approximately
145 acres. The southern waste rock/tailings disposal area is
' designed for placement of approximately 19,500,000 tons of
waste rock and 6,500,000 tons of tailings.
i Natural ground slopes at the site vary from 2.5:1 to 19:1
' and average approximately 12:1 or eight percent. ~~he southern
site vegetation is characterized as sagebrush flats, see
' Exhibit J. Soils are of the Blackhall gravelly sarniy loam soil
unit, see Exhibit I.
' During October 1988, seven test pits were excavated in
the vicinity of the southern waste rock tailings di<.:posal area.
' Based on visual observations of the subsurface stratigraphy
and material types, it has been determined that the site is
' underlain by relatively deep colluvialfalluvial deposits of
silty and gravelly sands similar to those found elsewhere on
1
' D-15
