1 <br />D.3.2 Site Descriation <br />' D.3.2.1 Northern Sites <br />The northern waste rock disposal facilities include four <br />separate disposal areas labelled A, B, C, and D. Progressing <br />' from west to east, the first three areas all lie west of the <br />mine pits and are located between the county road on the south <br />' and the northern permit boundary. The fourth area lies between <br />the East and West Pits, while the fifth area encompasses the <br />East Pit, as described in Section D.2.3. <br />1 <br />Natural ground slopes at waste rock disposal area A vary <br />' from 4H:1V to 16H:1V, averaging approximately 12H:1V or eight <br />percent, while those at waste rock disposal area B vary from <br />' 12H:1V to 16H:1V, averaging approximately 15H:1V or seven <br />percent. The natural ground slopes at waste rock cisposal area <br />' C vary from 7H:lU to lOH:lU, averaging approximately lOH:1V <br />or 10 percent. Vegetation at all sites is characterized as <br />sagebrush flats in the lower reaches and pinyon juniper <br />t woodlands in the upper reaches. Soils at area Aare primarily <br />the Uracca-Morval complex, while those at area B and area C <br />' are primarily Blackhall sandy loam. Exhibits nand J contain <br />a complete discussion of soils and vegetation within the <br />' project area. <br />Natural ground slopes at waste rock disposal area D vary <br />' from 2H:1V to 8H:1V, averaging approximately l4 percent. <br />Natural ground slopes at the East Pit waste rock disposal area <br />~' vary from vertical cliffs to SH:1V, averaging approximately <br />16 percent. Vegetation at both sites is primarily pinyon <br />' juniper. Soils are primarily Comodore-Blackhall complex. <br />During June and July ]988, 12 test pits were excavated <br />in the vicinity of the northern waste rock disposal areas, Two <br />boreholes were also drilled in this area.
