• INTRODUCTION
In response to the letter dated January 23, 1989 from the Mined Land
Reclamation Division of the Department of Natural Resources (MLRD),
Energy Fuels Coat, Inc. has requested that ACZ INC. prepare a re-design
of all drainages associated with the refuse disposal area. The MLRD
letter states that Colorado regulations require these structures to be
designed and constructed to safely pass a 100-year. 24-hour storm event.
Specifically, see Colorado Rules 4.10.3(2) and 4.09.2(7). Originally,
these structures were designed to pass a 10-year event.
This technical revision addresses those structures which handle surface
drainage from an area above the refuse disposal area and from the crest
and face of the disposal area, including:
• - Permanent Diversion N1
- Refuse Collection Ditches
•
Permanent Diversion N1 routes clean surface water from an area south and
west of the refuse pile to natural drainages. The refuse collection
ditches collect surface drainage off the refuse pile and route it to
Sedimentation Pond 4.
The methodology utilized to complete this revision is explained in
detail in the Methodology section of this report. Drawings showing
structure locations and design details resulting from this Technical
Revision are also contained within this report and supersede all
previous maps and detail drawings referencing the subject structures.
Hydrology calculations and hydraulic design calculations are contained
in Appendix A, Diversion and Collection Oitch Hydrology Calculations,
and the section titled, Diversion and Collection Ditch Hydraulic Design
Calculations, of this report, respectively.
Figure 1, Refuse Disposal Area Drainage Plan, shows the location of
• Permanent Diversion +il, the refuse collection ditches, and Sediment Pond
4.
-1-
