40 <br /> <br />Boel Series <br />TAXONOMIC CLASSIFICATIOtd: Sandy mixed, mesic, Fluroquentic <br />Haplustoll <br />The Boel series consists of deep, somewhat poorly <br />drained soils that formed in stratified sandy alluvium. <br />Boel soils occur primarily along drainages in the sand- <br />hill area and have slopes of 0 to 3 percent. <br />Boel soils are near the <br />soils are poorly drained and <br />Valent soils are excessively <br />colored surface layer. <br />Loup and Valent soils. Loup <br />are mottled at the surface. <br />drained and have a light <br />Profile description of Boel loamy sand from an area <br />of Loup-BOel loamy sands, 0 to 3 percent. <br />r <br />Al -- 0 to 14 inches; grayish brown (lOYR 5J2) loamy sand, <br />very dark grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; weak fine <br />granular structure; soft, loose; calcareous; moder- <br />ately alkaline (pH B.2); gradual smooth boundary. <br />C1 -- 14 to 31 inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) loamy sand <br />stratified with thin lenses of sandy loam, brown <br />(lOYR 5/3) moist; few fine faint light yellowish <br />brown (lOYR 6/4) moist and yellowish brown (lOYR 5/6) <br />._ moist mottles; massive; soft, very friable; calcar- <br />eous; moderately alkaline (pH 8.4); diffuse wavy <br />boundary. <br />C2 -- 31 to 60 inches; very pale brown (lOYR 7/3) loamy <br />sand stratified with thin lenses of sandy loam and <br />sand, pale brown (lOYR 6/3) moist; common medium <br />sized distinct yellowish brown (lOYR 5/8) moist, <br />brownish yellow (lOYR 6/6) moist and gray (lOYR 5/1) <br />moist mottles; massive; soft very friable; calcareous; <br />moderately alkaline. <br /> <br />Typically these soils have free carbonates at the <br />surface. <br />The A horizon has value of 4 to 5 dry, 2 or 3 moist <br />and chroma of 1 or 2. The C horizon has value of 6 or 7 <br />dry, 5 or 6 moist and chroma of 2 or 3. It is a loamy <br />sand or sand. <br />
