o ~
MOUNTAINVIEW PIT EXCAVATION AiID I2ECLAMATIOt: PLAT:
The Z'iountainviex Fit is designed as a limited excavation to
remove material which is an obstruction to the operation of uur
ranch. The r:~nch, on which the pit is to be located, is primarily
bottom land with a high water table and is usually wet with snow melt
and irrigation in the spring and summer. The area to be excavated is
adjacent to this bottomland on a steeply sloped hill, adjoining a
raised railroad grade. By removing this material by use of standard
excavating machines, this slope can be leveled for a calving and
corral area which would allow the cattle a dry place, which we pres-
ently do not have, out of the wet meadow. Dry ground is imperative in
the operation of a ranch for calving purposes and to prevent wet
lands diseases such as hoof rot, scours and pneumonia.
Machines to be used in the excavation and removal of material
era front end loaders, backhoes, crawler tractors, dump trucks and
gravel processing equipment.
We plan on reclaiming the excavated area as reasonably level
r` ,,,
° ~ with the adjacent railroad grade and then leave the surrounding slope
_,
r
~'
a
,
~ a steep c~rith as little vegetation as possible, so that the snow will
~
^
~, °' -~-~ m melt quickly and the bare ground wil] attract heat, thus creating a
u -
nE ~,~ ~ ~
'
natural wind break and warm sheltered area. The reclaimed slope
Pi r_
~- ~
`o
grade will be comparable with that of the nearby State Highway #135:
_
' c'
~
-' ~ which is of basically the same material composition and a 75~ grade.
p
p
~ l , '~
t
. Soil Conservationist Dick Antonio, has told us that natural reveoe-
o
~
tation will occur quickly because of the nearby source of seeds from
trees and grasses. Where excavation has occurred in the past, natural
\
~
a
0. revegetation has begun.
ro
V >
.~~
In the event of a severe storm we own z mile above and below the
,~2' pit area, and feel there will be no adverse effect on any other land
U
owners. We also own all mineral and water rights dating to 1902.
This area has been used since the 1920's for gravel by the County :end
the State and for the building of the school's foundaticn and has had
no ~1Ftrimental affects either on neighboring parties or their property.
47e would ]ike to request a waiter of the surety because the
leveling required: in the reclamation plan takes place as excavation
proceeds; and reseeding if deemed'n®cessary will occur rmturally
within in a short period of time following termination of the
excavation,
