The proposed permit area is also located
within the Cripple Creek Historic District, a National Historic Landmark (NHL). This is the highest national historic
designation, signaling exceptional value in interpreting the heritage of the United States. Proposed mining activities
should avoid adverse effects to STLl49 as well as to the NHL.
Since there is Federal agency involvement in this project (as the proposed permit area is located on BLM land),
please note that i[ is the responsibility of the Federal agency to meet the requirements of Section 106 of the Ahtional
Historic Preservation Act as se[ forth in 36 CFR 800 ("Protection of Historic Properties"). This includes the
identification of any historic properties (i. e. cultural resources which are eligible for or are listed in the NRHA)
within [he area of potential effects and determining whether the undertaking will have an effect upon such properties.
The State Historic Preservation Office, Native American tribes, representatives oflocal governments, and applicants
for Federal permits, licenses or other approval are entitled to consultative roles in this process.
Please note that our review of your project is expedited when you indicate the~Extent of the proposed permit area on a
legible portion of the appropriate and clearly identified 7.5 minute USGS topographic map.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Greg Wolff, Compliance
Coordinator, at (303) 866-4674.
Sincerely,
Georgianna Contiguglia
Slate Historic Preservation Officer
GC/GA W
Ce: Monica Weimer, BLM
