Box 1568
CORTEZ, COLORADO 81321
(970) 565-3388
Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company
11501 Highway 666
CORTEZ, CO 81321
SUBJECT.• Request for a storage contract
Dear Members of the Board:
As discussed with your Manager, Mr Les Nunn, we wish to enter into an agreement to
store some of the water which belongs to the Home Ditch water right, belonging to Mr.
Val Truelsen and currently being used by our firm to provide for the necessary wafer to
operate and reclaim a gravel pit on the Line Camp ranch upstream from Dolores. Mr.
Truelsen is drying up a portion of his irrigated land (supplied by the Home Ditch), and .
we wish to store some of this water, including flows starting in May, for release later in
the year outside the historic irrigation season, or in case of priority calls by other water
rights holders, to make up for depletions from our operations.
This contract is to part of the substitute water supply plan being reviewed and approved
by the Division of Water Resources (the State Engineer). The Division has kindly
drafted up a contract (attached) that meets all state requirements, to allow that water to
be stored. In return for storage, excess water which is made available by the dry-up~but
is not needed for replacement of depletions from the sand pit, will be made available to
MVIC for use as desired. Estimates prepared by the Division of these amounts are
attached and are further available as computer spreadsheets.
We are willing to discuss other alternatives which can meet MVIC's needs, especially
during a dry year such as this one, whether there are priority. calls or not. We wilt be
glad to answer any questions, as well as provide information about our plans.
inc;ely, R
Aryol B ley
Manager
Four States Aggregates LLC
